Michelle Beaman teaches classAs teachers and students alike are preparing for the beginning of the 2019-20 school year, Plumas Charter School announces two new faces in its teaching lineup for the Quincy Learning Center.

Michelle Beaman will join the staff at the 546 Lawrence St. location, teaching third grade. Jenna Moreno will teach several subjects to junior high and high school students at the 80 Main St. location.

Both women said they are passionate about the educational options PCS offers local students.

Michelle Beaman
Beaman started with PCS four years ago, building on her 20-plus years working in classroom and educational settings.
“I was drawn to Plumas County 16 years ago through the vast public access to creeks, rivers, and forest,” she said.

Beaman is currently pursuing an elementary education teaching credential and master’s degree in education.

“I have created curriculum and studied a wide range of learning methods,” she said. “I believe in flexible education because it honors our differences.”

In addition to personalized education, Beaman also cited the
community within the school as her favorite aspect of PCS.

Jenna Moreno
Moreno hit the ground running with PCS, teaching her first classes last December. This year, her schedule and topics have expanded to include history, Spanish, and yoga, as well as administration of the Get Focused, Stay Focused program.

Moreno holds a Master of Arts in teaching, a Bachelor of Arts in history, and a single-subject teaching credential in social science.
“Working both in the classroom setting and as a behavior therapist has led me to work with a diverse group of learners,” she said. “My love of learning and helping others learn led me to teach.”

She found Plumas County by becoming a new homeowner, and she said the individualized learning program at PCS made it her “first choice for work.”

“My favorite aspects of PCS include wonderful staff and awesome students,” she said. “Being able to help students take control of their learning and recognizing their individual learning styles has been the best part so far.”

Plumas Charter School operated learning centers in Quincy, Indian Valley, and Chester. For more information, call 530-283-3851 or visit plumascharterschool.org.
