After two years of canceled field trips, charter students finally hit the slopes at the Coppervale ski area and the Johnsville Historic Ski Bowl the last week of January.
Third through sixth graders enjoyed the rush of crisp air while gliding down snow-covered hills. Chester and Indian Valley students tried out skis and snowboards at the Coppervale ski area while Quincy kids enjoyed sledding in Johnsville.
Field trips have been few and far between the past two years because of the pandemic, so these excursions were highly anticipated by students and teachers. “We are very excited to have students back out exploring the natural environment. We are planning on a second trip, weather depending,” said Taylorsville Learning Center Site Coordinator, Andre Essue. Coppervale ski area is located 19 miles east of Chester and makes for a fun day-trip for locals that enjoy winter sports.
The Quincy crew drove east to the Johnsville Historic Ski Bowl in the Plumas-Eureka State Park near Blairsden where both students and staff enjoyed gliding down the mountain; sleds optional. The day-trip also included a science lesson, lunch and information about the area’s historic longboard races.
