Plumas Charter School invites students, parents and the public to take a tour and celebrate the completion of the new school at 1425 E. Main Street in Quincy. The ribbon cutting ceremony and reception will be held on Wednesday, August 17 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“What an incredible journey this has been! Seven long years of hard work and persistence have finally paid off.  Our new building symbolizes the school's ability to put down strong roots, become truly anchored and thrive,” said Executive Director, Taletha Washburn.

PCS broke ground on the East Quincy facility in August 2021. It will serve TK-12th grade students as well as the school’s main office staff. Prior to this school year, PCS occupied four different buildings in the downtown area.

The project has been in the works since 2016. Originally, the site was located at Kelsey Lane and Quincy Junction Road. However, a 2019 engineering survey revealed that the earthwork would exceed the project budget and make construction at that site infeasible. PCS started exploring different location options which lead to purchasing the property from Central Plumas Recreation and Parks District in 2021.

Washburn extended the following statement:

There are so many people to acknowledge who had a tremendous impact on the development of this school. Maggie Hennessy has been my partner in this from the very beginning.  Quite frankly, she has been responsible for almost as much as me. If not for her organized and detail-oriented approach, this building would be nowhere near as nice! Nick Trover has been our project manager from the beginning of this process, and has guided and supported us immensely.  Through all of the variables that came up along the way, Nick has been there to help us overcome. Modern Building Company out of Chico has been our official contractor for the last five years.  This project has taken many twists and turns since they agreed to build for us, and they stayed flexible, professional and accommodating. Scott McCollum has been our on site construction Superintendent for the last year.  I really can't thank Scott enough at this point, as he has so steadfastly and nicely dealt with Maggie and I through the building process.  All of our site visits, and nitpicks were met with a smile, humor and responsiveness.  We feel so very grateful that Scott was our on-the-ground lead. Our staff have been so incredibly patient and trusting during this endeavor, and we are so grateful that their commitment to our school and students was true.  To our families-this is all for you!  Our families have been very supportive through all of this, and we are so excited to be able to provide this beautiful new facility to our students.
