Kyla Deocampo’s been busy since graduating from PCS in 2019. After high school, she enrolled in Feather River College and completed her associate’s degree in environmental science. She now attends Sonoma State University where she majors in geography, environment and planning with a focus of society, environment and development. In addition to her studies, she is an intern at Of Earth Design; a drafting and consulting company in Sonoma County.

What does Kyla plan to do with that impressive major once she graduates? She is still deciding where she wants to take her career but has two different options on her radar; environmental specialist and environmental consultant. “There are a lot of possible options and I am trying to learn all that I can before making a decision that feels right to me,” said Deocampo.

In her free time, she enjoys hiking (pictured), gaming, long-boarding and candle making. Her favorite memories from her time at PCS were the field trips. She remembers having fun on small-group hikes and the times that their teacher, Casey Peters let Kyla and her friends listen to their 80’s playlist in the school van.

Kyla said that the flexibility of the charter school gave her the opportunity to learn time management at a young age. She took college classes from FRC while in high school and the flexibility allowed her to customize her schedule to achieve her academic goals. Kyla said her teacher,  Brittini Wade was influential in helping her understand math concepts and formulas. She admits she uses them more often than she thought she would when she was in high school.

Keep up the great work, Kyla!
