It was a collaborative effort between students, teachers and parent volunteers to put on the first “Winter Frost” dance for junior high and high school students at Plumas Charter School. 

The semi-formal party took place on Friday, December 8 at PCS’ Quincy site. Ms. Becca’s art students painted a photo-booth backdrop, parents and teachers set up a snack station and hot-chocolate bar, Mr. Greg was in charge of the sound system and Ms. Alyia had the important job of assembling the playlist to keep the party going.

Students spearheaded the idea for a dance that included seventh through twelfth-grade students and helped the adults with the planning process. Ninth grader Jakodi Gallagher attended a parents club meeting prior to the dance to present the idea and to request funds for planning. Parent club members were impressed by her attention to detail and public speaking skills during her presentation.

The dance started at 7 p.m. until the last song was played at 10 p.m. Attendance was mostly Quincy students but also included a few teens from PCS’ Indian Valley Academy in Taylorsville. After the dance, chaperones commented that the students had a lot of fun and look forward to more events like this in the future.
