Spring is in the air, and with it comes an exciting opportunity for families considering Plumas Charter School (PCS). Open Enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year begins Monday, March 10, offering both new and returning families a chance to secure a place for their students in PCS’s unique, student-centered learning environment.
For many families, PCS represents more than just a school—it's a community dedicated to academic growth, personalized learning and strong connections between educators, students, and families. Whether you are new to PCS or planning to return, completing an open enrollment form before Monday, April 21, at 8 a.m. is the first step in the process.
Who Should Apply?
Every year, the open enrollment period ensures that returning students, their siblings and new families have an equal opportunity to join the PCS community. This process applies to new families interested in PCS and currently enrolled PCS students planning to return.
How Enrollment Works
To ensure a fair process, PCS prioritizes students in the following order:
1. Returning PCS students
2. Siblings of returning students
3. Children of PCS staff members
4. New students from within the district
5. New students from neighboring districts
Once the open enrollment window closes, school administrators will assess available seats. If the number of applicants exceeds available spaces, a public lottery will be held on Friday, May 2, to determine enrollment and create a new waitlist if necessary. Waitlists do not carry over from year to year, so it is essential for families to reapply each enrollment cycle. Any remaining spots after open enrollment will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis outside of the waitlist process.
Registration After Open Enrollment
While completing the Enrollment Interest Form is the first step, it does not guarantee placement. Registration for the 2025-26 school year will begin on May 6, and families will receive links to complete the registration process. To secure a student’s spot, registration must be completed by June 13—this applies to new and returning students alike. The state and our auditor require PCS to collect updated registration information annually, making it essential for families to review all fields carefully to ensure accuracy. Families placed on the waitlist will also receive updates at this time.
