On Saturday, November 16, the gym in Greenville buzzed with energy as Plumas Charter School hosted its first-annual Alumni Volleyball Tournament. The event brought together former players, students and community members all while raising funds for the Warriors junior high and high school volleyball programs.
The tournament featured four alumni teams, representing graduating classes from 2001 to 2024, as well as this year’s PCS varsity team. Fans were treated to exciting matches as alumni teams faced off in a friendly yet competitive atmosphere. The championship game came down to a showdown between the varsity team and one of the alumni teams. It was a close game, but the varsity players pulled off the win in the fifth set, securing the victory.
At any given time, about 50 spectators filled the gym, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and enthusiasm. The event began at noon and wrapped up around 6:00 p.m., with attendees commenting on the impressive turnout for the first-time tournament.
Beyond the action on the court, the day offered plenty of activities and treats for attendees. A bake sale, cake raffle and 50/50 “split the pot” raffle added excitement and fundraising opportunities, while concessions ensured fans and athletes stayed fueled throughout the day. The highlight for many, was the Indian Valley Booster’s loaded-baked potato dinner.
The junior high and high school teams raised approximately $1,000 from the tournament alone, with additional funds coming from boosters through concessions and dinner sales. Prior to the event, the junior high team also hosted a serve-a-thon, with those contributions to be added to the final fundraising total once all pledges are collected. The raised money will go towards helping to fund equipment, uniforms and other team needs.
Organizers Sarah Novak and Adrienne Patterson expressed their gratitude to everyone who participated, volunteered or attended, making the event a resounding success. This inaugural tournament’s success hints at the potential for it to become a beloved annual tradition.
