Students, families and staff gathered under blue skies on May 15 to celebrate the end of another successful school year at Plumas Charter School’s Chester Learning Center. The annual event brought the whole learning community together for an afternoon filled with laughter, connection and classic summer fun.
Held on campus in Chester, the celebration featured a variety of games, tie-dying, a nacho bar and the return of a student favorite—the Kona Ice truck. Colorful sno cones in hand, kids and adults alike enjoyed the chance to unwind, reflect on the year and simply enjoy one another’s company.
Beyond the year-end celebration, high school students also had the chance to take part in a special community-based learning opportunity this spring: the “Thrill of the Grill” cooking class held in partnership with Carol’s Prattville Café. Through June, students are rolling up their sleeves and learning from Carol Franchetti herself, exploring the ins and outs of seasonal cooking, food prep and running a restaurant. The hands-on experience gives students a taste of what it’s like behind the scenes at a beloved local eatery. The course culminates in a meal prepared and served by the students to their families.
Chester Learning Center, which serves first through twelfth grade students through a flexible hybrid model of on-site classes and independent study, is known for its tight-knit school community and individualized support. Events like the end-of-year party and culinary program highlight the center’s commitment to creating a well-rounded and welcoming experience for students and families.
As the 2024–2025 school year comes to a close, the Chester team looks forward to another great year ahead—after a well-earned summer break, of course!
