Read Across America Week

Try it, try it, and you may! Elementary students and staff at Plumas Charter School got into the Seuss spirit by celebrating Read Across America week with activities and dress-up days.

Delayed school starts and snow days due to the winter storms interrupted the original schedule of events, but the learning centers across Plumas County made the best of the situation. In Chester, the kids embraced the cozy weather with a pajama day, fort building, lots of reading and Seuss fun.

At Indian Valley Academy, Mountain Valley Parent’s Club hosted a themed brunch. Special guest, Scott Abrams delighted the students by reading “Green Eggs and Ham” aloud. Then, the second-graders entertained their peers and guests with a reader’s theater performance of the story.

Read Across America was launched in 1998 by the National Education Association as a year-round program to celebrate reading. Because of his impact on the reading world, Dr. Seuss’ birthday, March 2 was declared Read Across America Day.
