Posted on 02/21/2025

In a heart-pounding start to the postseason, the Plumas Charter varsity boys basketball team secured a dramatic 65-63 victory over Loyalton High School on Thursday, February 20. With the home-court win, the Warriors advance to the next round, where they will face the Biggs Wolverines on Tuesday, February 25, in Biggs.

Coach Kaley Bentz said that the Warriors were led by an incredible defensive effort from Michael Taddei, who played a crucial role in shutting down Loyalton’s offense. On the other end of the court, Dalton Bentz dominated with 30 points, including five three-pointers, keeping the Warriors’ offense alive. Bentz and Taddei also controlled the boards, limiting Loyalton’s second-chance opportunities with strong rebounding efforts.

“I really am lucky to have an incredible group of student-athletes this year,” said Coach Bentz. “They are a naturally talented group that have worked very hard at their craft. We have traveled together during the offseason to play hundreds of games in six states, and the hard work is paying off now. They are such a fun group to be around and to help mentor in life and in the game of basketball. We are a very close bunch on and off the court, and we feel like we are one big family. As a coach, I could not ask for anything more.”

The Warriors emerged from the regular season as the Pioneer League Champions and the number three seed for their respective division. Their strong performance throughout the season positioned them as a formidable contender in the playoffs, setting the stage for their thrilling opening-round victory.

Now, the Warriors turn their attention to Biggs, where they will take on the Wolverines in the next round of the playoffs. Biggs has been a strong contender all season, and the Warriors will need to bring the same intensity and execution to continue their playoff run.

Tip-off is set for Tuesday, February 25th at 7 p.m. in Biggs. Warriors fans are encouraged to make the trip and support the team as they fight for a spot in the next round.
