The Plumas Warriors varsity basketball teams had an exciting week, showcasing resilience and determination on the court. The girls’ team gained a win against Elk Creek, while the boys’ team continued their dominant run. Meanwhile, the much-anticipated Alumni Tournament brought a mix of nostalgia and competitive spirit to the court.

Varsity Girls

The Lady Warrior’s continued their strong season with a 38-30 victory over Elk Creek High School on Tuesday, January 28. The Warriors’ defensive pressure and teamwork were key in their win, highlighting their ability to bounce back after a tough loss to Loyalton just days earlier. With one league game remaining, the team looks to finish strong.

Lucy Joseph played a pivotal role in the last two games. She led the charge with 11 points and seven steals against Loyalton, continuing her strong defensive performance that has been a hallmark of her season. Joseph has consistently been a game-changer on defense, recording three or more steals in four consecutive games. Jaycee Pew also made a significant impact against Loyalton, nearly securing a double-double with nine points and 17 rebounds. The Warriors’ relentless work on the offensive glass was evident, securing 21 offensive rebounds, a feat they’ve maintained throughout the season.

Varsity Boys

The Warriors varsity boys extended their impressive home winning streak to 11 games with a commanding 52-35 win over the Westwood Lumberjacks. This victory also marked their Senior Appreciation Night, where seniors and their families were honored during the game, creating an emotional and celebratory atmosphere.

Dalton Bentz’ consistency has been key for the Warriors, marking his third straight game scoring in double digits. Owen Joseph also delivered a stellar performance, dropping 22 points while shooting 8-of-20 from the field. The Warriors’ balanced attack and defensive intensity proved too much for Westwood to handle.

With the regular season winding down, the boy’s team will use these experiences to fuel their playoff pushes.

Alumni Tournament

The annual Alumni Tournament brought excitement as former players from Greenville returned to compete alongside and against current varsity players. The event featured two men’s basketball teams, two women’s basketball teams, and both the boys’ and girls’ varsity squads, creating an electrifying atmosphere for players and fans alike.

The alumni players showcased their enduring skills, engaging in competitive yet lighthearted matchups against the varsity teams. For the current Warriors, it was a chance to test their abilities against seasoned former players while embracing the deep-rooted basketball culture of Greenville. The tournament also served as a community gathering, celebrating the history and growth of the program and raising funds for the Warriors basketball program.

In the final matchups of the tournament, the varsity girls secured a hard-fought victory against the women’s team, while the varsity boys triumphed over the men’s alumni team. The Warriors continue to build momentum, drawing from both their past and present in pursuit of success.
